Reducers are pipeline components used to connect pipes of different diameters. They play a crucial role in ensuring leak-proof and reliable pipeline connections, as well as in adapting the system to various operating conditions.

Main purposes of reducers

  1. Connecting pipes of different diameters: Reducers allow smooth transition between pipe diameters.
  2. Ensuring leak-proof connections: These components must withstand the same operating conditions (pressure, temperature, medium characteristics) as the entire pipeline.
  3. Preventing stagnant zones: Using properly designed reducers helps avoid formation of stagnant areas, especially when working with viscous or aggressive media.

Types of reducers

Reducers are classified by geometric shape into two main types:

1. Concentric reducers
  • Description: Have symmetrical conical shape. The axes of smaller and larger diameters coincide.
  • Application: Primarily used in vertical piping systems.
2. Eccentric reducers
  • Description: Have asymmetrical shape where the axis of smaller diameter is offset relative to the larger one.
  • Application: Used in horizontal piping to prevent accumulation of liquid or gas.
  • Features: Particularly effective for systems with viscous media.

GOST 17378-2001

GOST 17378-2001 is one of the most common standards for reducer manufacturing. It regulates the production of seamless welded reducers (both concentric and eccentric).
